Ream R.Ox programme

The New Team R.OX programme for 2009/2010 is now out. This can be found in the clubroom and on the website and a downloadable version will soon be available. For more info on courses and bookings please contact the centre.

End of RIOTS Training Programme

At the End of August the 3 Riverside Instuctors in the Outdoors Trainees (RIOTs) finished their year long training course. A big thank you goes out to them from all of us for their valuable contributions to the running of the centre. Congratulations to all you have achieved, it's been great having you here.

Don's Alpine Adventure 24th July-2nd August

The Don's went on a weeks paddling trip to the French Alps this week, taking canoes, play boats and creek boats. Before leaving they managed to secure a Youth Opportunity Grant, helping pay for the cost of the trip, two new tents, a waterproof camera and tee-shirts. Video of 'L'Aventure Alpine 09' is currently being edited by some of the young people who were on the trip

Junior Canoe Club Membership Open

Membership for the Junior Canoe Club is open again for 10-12 year olds. Join now whilst places are still available. We also have 2 sunday paddling trips coming up for the JCC: Sunday 9th August, paddle back down the Cherwell and Thames from the Vicky Arms, Sunday 16th August is our family activity day, giving the parents and families of the JCC to have a go in a boat too!

Over the summer we will be running a number of courses for 11-16 year olds, including introduction to canoe and kayak, white water kayaking, expeditions, bushcraft and BCU star awards Training and Assessments. For a full list of courses follow the link below. To book a place on a course please fill in a medical booking form and bring it in to the centre with payment

Summer Holiday Courses

14th June Symonds Yat Trip

On Sunday the Don's went on a day trip to the famous Symonds Yat Rapid on the Rive Wye. This was the first white water trip some of them had been on, but this didn't stop them getting stuck in to the rapids. They learnt about features on the river, breaking in and out and ferry gliding. We all had a great time. and even the weather was warm and sunny! Next trip, surfing in Devon

13th June River Open Day

Last Weekend was the River Thames Open Day, with loads of activities and events taking place on the river all day. Riverside ran taster sessions in Sit-On-Top kayaks, and the other clubs along the river held canoe trips, races and a procession down the river.

22nd-31st May Swiss Alps Trip

A group of 5 riverside paddlers from Pedagogy went on a week long paddling trip to the swiss alps. Whilst there they paddled steep creeks, big volume rivers and coninuous grade 4/5 rapids. One paddler took a swim and broke his boat, some rapids had to be portaged but they all had an amazing time and some great weather for it too. Keep an eye out for the video coming soon!

22nd-31st May WWSR

A group of 8 Riverside paddlers passed their White Water Safety and Rescue course at the weekend. They went to the rivers Tryweryn and Dee in North Wales to learn how to unpin boats, setup rescue lines, wade to the aid of swimmers and how to do a live bait rescue! Everyone had a great time and learnt a lot, despite coming home a bit bruised.

May 15th Goodbye Hugh

Our shop manager Hugh has finished his great work in the shop to take a 2 month paddling holiday in Europe. First stop, Lyon then on to Switzerland to meet Rob and the other guys from Riverside. Sam is taking over from Hugh and will be running the shop until September

10th-18th April Scotland Expo

Team R.Ox went for a Week long Paddling expedition to Scotland at Easter. In an interview Hector said 'We had a really good trip, my favourite river was the Etive, especially Right Angle Falls because it was the biggest drop most of us had done'. Check out the photos on facebook!

Our new fleet of Mountain bikes has arrived. We have 9 Hardtail bikes in 16, 18 and 20 inch frame sizes. Keep an eye out for Mountain Biking courses and trips coming up soon
